Apart from having bodies we would prefer to think only exist in the land far far away from here, all of these women have experienced the ultrasonic cold fusion method of hair extentions; a process adopted from Italy by one of Australia’s leading hairdressers, Joseph Mourad.
After completing Susie Maroney’s new look, Joseph reached the milestone of transforming 1000 women with his unique technique. With only two artists in Australia who use the ultrasonic cold fusion method, Joseph is in high demand all over the country and has been asked many times to share his secrets with salons both here and in New Zealand.
“We are now able to make the hair look healthier, thicker and longer. The ultrasonic cold- fusion machine uses clinical keratin, which mimics the hairs natural keratin, to act as a bonding agent; and by combining that with organic colors we ensure the hair remains the best condition…. even the client forgets it is not her real hair!” Comments Joseph
After 20 years in the industry, Joseph is extremely enthusiastic about the ability to put real hair on rather than just cut it off and shares his excitement with hundreds of women around the country who are taking advantage of this new technology. One supplier of hair extension accessories suggested that more money is spent on hair extentions than all other health and beauty services on the market today.
“Women are willing to do whatever it takes to feel happy and confident in their own skin and with new technology women are able to have the hairstyles they once thought was impossible. It may seem strange but I have women cry after they have had their hair done because they suddenly feel beautiful for the first time in a long time” says Joseph
Joseph Mourad’s 8 steps to long lasting and lovely hair extentions-
1. In depth client consultation- this is crucial to understanding how educated a client is about hair care and maintenance.
2.Selection of extension and shade- instead of applying the extentions and then a colour; Mourad suggests the extentions will last much longer and look much healthier if the colour of the natural hair is coloured to suit the existing colour of the extentions. Mourad also suggests ‘real’ hair used as the extension has a more desirable effect.
3. Hair preparation- the hair must be washed thoroughly with shampoo only; the use of conditioner can cause extentions to slide out.
4. Segment Selection- the thickness of the hair attached to each segment is dependent on the density of the client’s hair. Mourad advises that to reduce knotting there should be no flyaway strands.
5. Positioning the extentions- Mourad believes the angling of the extension in the same direction of the hair growth will ensure a seamless effect.
6. Selecting the distance- the distance between the scalp and where the hair is bonded to the client’s own hair must be considered. Mourad notes that this is heavily dependent on the direction of the hair growth.
7. Bonding Process- By holding the activator for 10 seconds the bond is activated via ultrasonic waves and the extension becomes part of the hair. The cold fusion technique does not create tension on the hair as is common with other methods, since the bonding is sitting on the outside of the follicles.
8. Aftercare- Mourad advises clients not to wash their hair for 48 hours after application and to avoid using products with a high concentration of alcohol, detergent or sodium laurel sulphate. This will prolong the lifetime of the extentions. He also stresses the importance of a professional hairstylist performing the removal of any extentions as this process can be almost as complex as attaching them.
What is the expected cost involved with a full head of real hair extentions- from $1500 to $6000
